Beef Quality Assurance

Why Get BQA Certified?

Getting BQA certified is your consumer-friendly story to tell. A certification verifies that you're concerned for your cattle, the environment and the consumer.

What is BQA?

Beef Quality Assurance is a nationally coordinated, state implemented program that teaches beef producers to raise cattle under optimum management and environmental conditions. BQA guidelines are designed to make certain all beef consumers can take pride in what they purchase – and can trust and have confidence in the entire beef industry.

The Beef Quality Assurance Program's mission is to maximize consumer confidence in and acceptance of beef by focusing the producer's attention to daily production practices that influence the safety, wholesomeness and quality of beef and beef products through the use of science, research and education initiatives.

BQA programs have evolved to include best practices around good record keeping and protecting herd health, which can result in more profits for producers. When better quality cows leave the farm and reach the market place, the producer, packer, and consumer all benefit. When better quality beef reaches the supermarket, consumers are more confident in the beef they are buying, and this increases beef consumption.

Have you become BQA certified yet? If not, then the time is now! Cattlemen can become certified through online training or by attending an in-person certification course led by Alabama BQA Coordinator and Extension Veterinarian Dr. Soren Rodning.
