Founded in 1944, the Alabama Cattlemen's Association serves as the combined body of over 12,000 members and as Alabama's qualified state beef council.
The Alabama Cattlemen’s Building is located two blocks from the State Capitol.  It is really not just built of brick and mortar but comes from the pastures and hay fields of every rural section of the state.  It was built, and is maintained and supported by men and women who know first hand what it is to get their hands dirty with the soil and know the toil of honest sweat streaming down their faces.  It is a true and worthy monument to those who through years good and bad times, plentiful and lean, have labored to build a $2 billion beef cattle industry in the state they love and cherish.  Other organizations housed in the ACA building include The Southeastern Livestock Exposition, The Alabama Cattlemen's Foundation, The Alabama Livestock Hall of Fame, The Alabama Cattlewomen's Association and The Alabama Junior Cattlemen's Association.
A large grass roots board of directors governs the association, which is responsible for both the membership and beef checkoff funded programs of work. The board includes the president of each of the 67 county chapters in the state, along with the state officers, past state presidents and lifetime directors.  These state and local leaders meet at least 4 times a year and serve without compensation.   From the beginning, the association sought out influential willing individuals who would give their best in leading the association.

The ACA serves as the voice of the state's cattle producers and beef industry.  The news media today demands instantaneous response to critical issues and beef certainly has been in the news.
Thanks to producer funded checkoff programs, the ACA leadership and staff are trained to respond in a positive factual manner to the media's tough and often demanding questions. The ACA is ready and informed when the media calls to respond to any questions from drought to food safety concerns.
In today's political climate, laws and regulations impacting cattle producers and landowners occur more often and are more extreme. Through the ACA's affiliation with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, Alabama cattlemen are represented on a daily basis in Washington, DC where there is a constant ongoing battle to preserve our way of life. ACA's grassroots membership and effective lobbyist in Montgomery have over the years successfully protected cattle producers and landowners. Clean water, private property rights, international trade, animal disease, food safety and taxation are some of the areas of concern where your interests are represented by the ACA in Montgomery and Washington.
The Alabama Cattleman magazine is the oil that makes the wheel run smooth by keeping the ACA members informed.  Starting out as a quarterly newsletter, the Alabama Cattleman became a full-fledged magazine in June of 1958.  Owned by the association and produced by professional staff, the Alabama Cattleman has grown into one of the most respected, award winning livestock / trade association magazines in the country.

The professional staff of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association has never been very large in number, but has always been very high in quality and dedication. Because the staff has remained small, they have always been hard working and worn many hats. The essential ingredient to this success has been that since 1952, the association has had only two Executive Vice Presidents
